In 1961 an Irish proposal in the UN General Assembly called for States to conclude an international agreement to restrict the transfer and acquisition of nuclear weapons and stimulated discussions on the NPT.

NATO – North Atlantic Treaty Organization

Willy Brandt (1913 – 1992) was the West German Chancellor from 1969 – 1974, and from 1964 to 1987 led the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD). Brandt was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1971.
